Results obtained in the investigation of two differently constructed machines for the bed formation in the carrot production were presented in this paper. The A-type machine had the oppositely rotating rotor and blades of the L type, while the B-type machine had the parallel rotating rotor and blades of the I type. The exploitation parameters and the crumb formation were monitored during the investigation. The crumb formation quality was evaluated by the analysis of the soil structure content and the structure coefficient k. During the investigation, when the A-type machine operated with an increased working depth, the structure coefficient decreased from 2.05 at the depth of 0-7 cm to 1.42 at the depth of 14-21 cm. In such a case layer tillage of soil was achieved. During the investigation, when the B-type machine operated, uniform values of the structure coefficient were estimated (3.28-3.63). Also, a high content of micro aggregates (3.90-5.88%) was registered before and after the bed formation. The higher carrot root length of the average weight of 80 g was measured during bed formation with the A-type machine.
