During 2003 and 2004 the sunflower pathogen Sclerotinia sclerotiorum was studied especially at localities of the Southwest Slovakia (Nitra region, South Slovakia) and the Southeast Slovakia (Kosice region, West Slovakia). Total 87 localities with sunflower crops were evaluated. There were evaluated 42 localities in the Nitra region and 25 localities in the Kosice region. The occurrence of pathogen Sclerotinia sclerotiorum was higher in the Southwest Slovakia, especially in 2004. In that year the pathogen was founded at 11 localities and level of infection exceeded 50%. At 2 localities infection exceeded 70%. Much higher sums of precipitation was recorded during the early stages of sunflower growth period until flowering in June 2004, this fact probably influenced higher occurrence of S. slerotiorum in that year. The results of S. sclerotiorum occurrence investigation point out on great importance of white rot in sunflower fields and higher harmfulness, mainly in connection with suitable weather conditions.
