Effect of selected factors on the mobile potassium reserve in soils in the Czech Republic

The objective of the long-term stationary experiment was to estimate the effect of the weather conditions, production region, soil textural class, soil type and increasing doses of fertilizers on the content of mobile potassium reserve in soils. From 1982 to 1998 we sampled soil from 7 selected localities where 5 combinations of fertilizers had been applied. In all soil samples were determined reserve of mobile potassium (deduction of available potassium and extraction with HNO3). The form of potassium was statistically significantly (P less than 0.01) influenced above all by growing region, soil textural class and soil type of soil. As compared with the potato growing region, the average value of mobile K reserve in the sugar-beet growing region was higher by 41.2%. As far as the textural class of soil was concerned, the highest mobile reserves of potassium were found in clay soils while in sandy soils this figure was by nearly one half lower. The significantly highest contents of mobile K reserve were found in chernozem. As compared with cambisol, this figure was higher by 98.7%. Fertilisation showed a low to medium effect on reserves of mobile K in the majority of localities (r=0.4272 to 0.7454). The application of K fertilisers increased the reserves of mobile potassium. However, there were no significant differences among individual experimental variants (p=0.62) and individual years (p=0.70). The effect of year on the reserve of mobile K was not demonstrated.
