The aim of our research was monitoring of epigeic groups occurence on the nature reserve of Zitavsky luh locality focused on Carabidae family and evaluation of occurrence of individual species falling into this family. Collection of epigeic materials was sampling by terrestrial trap method in years 2003 and 2004, during vegetation period, on the six localities (sampling places) of nature reserve of Zitavsky luh, which represents acreage of 74.68 hectare in altitude of 132-133 metres above sea level. During two-year period there has been obtained 39 382 ex epigeic animal component by terrestrial trap method, which were represented by 28 groups with dominant representation of Formicoidea, Collembola, Coleoptera, Acarina and Areneidea ones. In terms of collection frequency and type of locality, our attention was paid to the further determination of Coleoptera order on individual families of which family Carabidae represents dominat occurrence achieving 29.01%. This family is environment quality indicator in ecosystems. Model family of Carabidae was represented by 922 species, where were determined up to the amount of 50 types, what have indicated high specific ecosystem biodiversity. We have registered dominant abundance at species of Harpalus punctatulus (Duft.,) Carabus scheidleri (Panz.), Pterostichus anthracinus (Illig.), Harpalus rufipes (De Geer). Other species showed lower level of ocurrence, but also contributed to specific ecosystem biodiversity. Calculated value of diversity index of 2.5092 confirmed high diversity of the investigated cenosis and suitability of environmantal conditions from the point of view of the topic aspect as well as trophic one. It can be concluded, that these specific biotops are important element of sustainable development of ecological landscape stability and contribute to the conservation of biological landscape biodiversity.
