The aim of our study was the evaluation of genetic and environmental factors influence on main wheat grain parameters which are necessary for bioethanol production: starch content, amylose/amylopectin ratio and alpha-amylase (alpha-AMS) activity. 48 wheat cultivars from two years and 16 cultivars from four different regions was appreciated. There were differences between individual cultivars in all three parameters. The highest starch content was observed in wheat cultivars grown in Slovak region Vígľaš-Pstruša. Starch content and alpha-AMS activity were markedly increased in lower temperature and more rainfall during grain maturation. Locality and year did not effect on amylose/amylopectin ratio. From the point of view evaluated parameters, new Slovak cultivars Pavlína and Veldava are perspective for bioethanol production. Both these cultivars are high in starch and amylopectin content and alpha-AMS activity.
