Proper diets for crossbred native chickens from two commercial sources

One day-old, crossbred native chickens of 2 commercial sources, each 480 heads were divided into 6 groups, each with 2 replicates (40 heads/rep) according to the 2*3*2 factorial design. Three types of diets were tested, i.e. 1) modified broiler pellet 2) modified layer chick pellet and 3) home mixed mash. Each diet contained 2 planes of nutrition for kcal ME/g. The last period of chicken's age (week 11-13) both sexes were fed with either 15 percent CP, 2.6 kcal ME/g or 15 percent CP, 2.9 kcal ME/g. Performance of chickens form source A was superior (P LT 0.05) to source B throughout the 13 weeks of experiment. Diet 1, which modified from broiler pellet gave the best performance during the first 5 weeks. However when the final weight was considered diet 2 which modified form layer chick pellet gave the best growth with higher feed intake thus caused similar feed conversion ratio to the others. Plan of nutrition in this experiment had no effect on chicken performance, dressing percentage, the weight of gizzard and abdominal plus visceral fat as well as that of thigh and breast meat. However when the production cost was taken into consideration, the proper diet for crossbred native chicks should be a home mixed mash which contains 21 percent CP, 2.9 kcal ME/g for the first 5 weeks and 17 percent CP, 2.6-2.9 kcal ME/g for week 6-10 while that for week 11-13 of birds' age is 15 percent CP, 2.6 kcal ME/g for the first 5 weeks and 17 percent CP, 2.6-2.9 kcal ME/g for week 6-10 while that for weed 11-13 of birds age 15 percent CP, 2.6 kcal ME/g.
