During 2000-2001, mass rearing of the mimosa seed borer Acanthoscelides spp. (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) were conducted at NBCRC/NRC for using as biological control agents of the giant sensitive plant, Mimosa pigra L. The insects were released in various M. pigra L. infested areas in the northern region. Field monitoring and evaluation revealed that Acanthoscelides spp. were established and distributed in the release sites and the adjacent areas and gave a partial control of M. pigra.
