Processes of establishing and developing a grain market in the Polissya (Forest zone) region of Ukraine are investigated by the example of the Zhytomyr oblast based on data of the Main Statistics Board and the Main Board of Agro-Industrial Development of the Zhytomyr oblast. The up-to-date state of the grain market is found to be an unstable and immature one. For the further improvement of the grain market, it is necessary to carry out restructuring in the field of forming rational grain production structures and volumes (taking into account the zonal special features of the Polissya, assortment of grain crops and economic expediency of their growing); to establish effective market infrastructure, marketing and market conditions information services; to introduce modern energy-saving technologies for grain production; to activate demand of foreign countries for the grain promoting its export.
