Diallel analysis of fiber length in F1 cotton hybrids

The study was carried out in 2004-2005 to investigate the inheritance of fiber length on half diallel crosses of 5 cotton cultivars and 3 lines. It was found that this trait was determined by a genetic system with manifestation of over-dominant and incompletely dominant effects of genes. Complementary epistasis was also possible. The parents had different dominance (recessiveness) during the two years of study probably due to the change of gene spectrum determining the fiber length under different year’s conditions. Because of high genetic variability successful selection can be expected.
