Influence of Pollen Origin on the Development of Berries and Seeds in Crosses Between Seeded and Seedless Vine Cultivars

The influence of pollen of different origins on the development of berries and seeds in crosses between seeded and seedless vine cultivars has been investigated. It has been established that a cultivar specificity exists as regards the sizes of pollen grains by sections base, middle and top of inflorescence. Depending on the position of flower buttons, a tendency is revealed towards decreasing pollen fertility from top to base of inflorescences in seeded cultivars, while seedless cultivars are characterized by the highest pollen fertility in the top and base sections. The type of the cross seeded x seedless or seeded x seeded cultivar exerts an influence on the formation of berries with a different number of seeds depending on the position and origin of pollen in the inflorescence.
