Phenological Traits and Reproductive Characteristics of Grafted Hazelnut Trees
2009
Nikolova, M. (Agricultural Experimental Station, Kardzhali (Bulgaria))
This study was carried out at the Agricultural Experimental Station - Kardzhali and covers ten hazelnut varieties of different origin. The flowering phenology and some reproductive features of hazelnut cultivars grafted on C. colurna L. rootstock were observed. On the basis of this study the following be conclusions may be drawn: According to the entering into the flowering period the cultivars are classified as follows: early flowering: Tonda romana, Tonda gentile and Long Spanish; middle early flowering: Bademoviden, Ran trapezoundsky, Ata baba, Ana and Furfulak; late flowering: Cosford and Halski cultivars. The earliest time of entering "catkins' lengthening" phase was in Tonda romana, Ran trapezoundsky, Ana and Bademoviden. Tonda romana and Tonda gentile cultivars were notable for excellent fruit-bearing and because of that they should be the most preferable for growing together with Ran trapezoundsky and Bademoviden in our country. No one of the studied cultivars shows biannual fruit-bearing.
