[Initial material for the selection of red beet in Belarus]

The results of evaluating collection and selection samples of red beet on a complex of valuable characters are represented. Studied in collection of nursery of grade samples of red beet essentially differ to economic valuable signs. The most valuable on their complex are Nesravnennaya, Globus, Podzimnyaya А 474, Odnosemyannaya, Mulatka, Tsilindra, Bordo odnosemyannaya, Bordo 237, Kamerun, Kholodostojkaya 19, Carillon, Rywal, Egipski pne, Opolski, Larka, Rocket, Czerwona kula, Pablo F1, Red cloud F1, Libero. As a source of the high content of a dry matter it is possible to use grade samples: Bordo odnosemyannaya (16,4%), Bordo 237 (17,3%), Kamerun, (16,4%), Globus (17,7%), Kholodostojkaya 19 (16,5%), Red cloud F1 (17,5%). At selection samples for increase of the content of the general sugar can be recommended: Globus (13,6%), Valenta (13,0%). The grade samples Globus (1007 mg/kg), Kholodostojkaya 19 (1152 mg/kg), Egipski pne (1178 mg/kg), Opolski (1213 mg/kg) are recommended for creation of grades with low accumulation of nitrates. The selection work spent in 2004-2005 with red beet has allowed to select 3 lines which have surpassed the standard in the indicators and will be involved in the further selection work
