Bee honey production and its economic feasibility in Qalyoubia Governorate [Egypt]

The present study is concerned with the situation of honey bee production in Qalyoubia governorate and evaluation of the profitability of apiary's at all productivity scales. The study depends on primary data collated from a sample of 100 honey producers in 2004, which where examined by mean of quantitative and descriptive analyses. A feasibility study of apiary's projects was carried out through financial appraisal in terms of benefit cost ratio net present worth internal rate of return and the capital payback period the study proved that all scales of productivity of profitable. Moreover, a sensitivity test was employed to demonstrate the effect of change in costs of inputs and income on apiary's projects profitability at all scales of apiary's was found either in costs of reducing the income by 12 % or increasing the total costs by 12 % which the other parameters were constant. The study recommends a wide spread use of apiary's particularly those of large scale ( 100 cells) and encourage junior producers for more investments in this field.
