A field experiment was conducted to estimate the components of genetic variance, heritability, genetic gain for yield and yield components in the corss, Precoz Sel. x Pant Lentil 639 using North Carolina Design-1.The dominance variance (oD2) was high for harvest index, number of primary branches/plant, number of secondary branches/plant and number of seeds/pod, while the same estimates attained a negative value for 100-seed weight. The additive genetic variance (oD2) was also high for all the characters except number of seeds/pod and number of primary branches per plant. The heritability in narrow sense was high for all the characters except days to 50 flowering and harvest index, full-sib family selection would be suitable for all the characters studied except days to 50 flowering and harvest index.
