A field experiment involving 15 sugarcane varieties of early and mid-late maturity groups was conducted at Research Farm of Sugarcane Research lnstitue, Pusa, Bihar during autumn planting season in 1998 to study correlation among morphological, physiological and juice quality characters under rainfed condition. The morphological characters like germination per cent, number of shoots, leaf area index in June and September, single cane weight and cane height at 360 days showed significant positive correlation with cane yield and also among themselves at phenotypic level. Among physiological parameters, total chlorophyll content showed significant correlation. Sucrose per cent juice in middle of January, an important juice quality trait, also recorded. significant correlation with cane yield. Thus, germination per cent, number of shoots, leaf area index, single cane weight, total chlorophyll content and sucrose per cent juice may be taken into consideration while selecting rainfed tolerant varieties of sugarcane combining high yield and better juice quality.
