Stem cutting of Sesbania sesban and S. grandiflora treated with different concentrations of IBA, NAA and Boric acid and their combination indicated the variation in rooting ability of cuttings and the effect of different concentrations. S. sesban rooted and sprouted almost in all the concentrations of IBA, NAA and boric acid except in 1000 mg/l NAA, whereas S. grandiflora did not root at higher concentrations offfiA and NAA. Boric acid was most effective in the induction of rooting and sprouting as wellas most favourable for root and shoot growth in both the species. IBA and NAA have positive effect on regeneration with respect to sprout growth and roots/rooted cuttings at 100 and 200 mg/l in both the species. In untreated cuttings, good response was also observed in rooting and sprouting indicating their regeneration potential in natural habitats. In S. sesban the quick rooting resonse was observed whereas in S. grandiflora root formation was very late to shoot formation. In the sprouted cuttings, the shoot length (sprout length), number of roots per rooted cuttings and root length was maximum in S. sesban under all sets oftreatments as compared to S. grandiflora exhibiting better response to regeneration.
