One twenty-eight traditional aromatic genotypes were studied along with seven improved checks to obtain basic information on the nature and magnitude of variation. The analysis of variance and genotypic coefficients of variation revealed the presence of considerable amount of genetic variability for the characters studied. The high grain yield / plant (18.28g) was recorded in [Badshahbhog (Acc. No.B: 421)] where, low grain yield /plant (4.32g) was recorded in [Aama Gohi (Acc. No.B: 349)]. A wide range of variation for yield and yield components like thousands grain weight (7.03 to 23.65), ear bearing tillers (3.50 to 13.90) and panicle length (18.70 to 36.60 cm) was observed. Amylose content (9.17 to 26.02
