Investigating the possibilitty of flame control of weeds in corn as compared to conventional chemical methods.

Efficacy of weed flaming was tested in grain corn fields in Tehran province during 2005 and 2006. The experiment was a Randomized Complete Block Design with 3 replications and the following 10 treatments: use of flamer at 3-5 and 10-15 leaf stages of corn alone or after ppi application of eptam (Eradicane,82% EC) at the rate of 4 L/ha, paraquat (20% SL) at the rate of 3 L/ha when corn was at the 3-5 and 10-15 leaf stage, Eptam at 6 L/ha (ppi), atrazin (80% WP) at 1.5 kg/ha+alachlor (48% EC) at 5 L/ha (pre) , weedy and weed free controls. Results showed that flaming weeds alone, or in combination with herbicides can control weeds and boost yields. It is advised to use flamer in early growth stages of weeds to get favourable results.
