The slender spindle form of the apple trees using dwarfing root stock is very popular in Hyogo prefecture. However, this cultivating system has some problems of the excessive tree height by the vigorous tree growth in the upper part of tree crown and the poor fruit quality in the lower part of that. I tried to transform the slender spindle tree form to a new tree one, free spindle which has been developed in other apple district, and estimated the lowering of the tree height and the improvement of the fruit quality. 1 The tree height in the autumn of tree-transformation treatment became lower from 30 to 50 cm than the control in every year. 2 The shoot length and the number of nodes in three years later after the treatment were significantly lower than in the control. 3 The yield of the transformation treatment was smaller than that of the control within two years later from the beginning of the treatment. However, the yield of the transformation treatment exceeded that of the control in three years later and more. 4 The fruit weight, coloration rate and Brix of the juce in the transformation treatment were superior to that in the control in two years later and more from the beginning of the transformation. 5 The rate of fruits distribution within 200 cm from the ground in the transformation treatment was more than 99%. The almost all fruits in the transformation treatment were set within the reach of hand.
