Simple method for seedling test of Phytophthora stem rot of soybean [Glycine max], and genetic analysis of resistance to race J using this method

Phytophthora stem rot of soybean is caused by Phytophthora sojae (Kauffmann and Gerdemann), and its critical damage has been recognized in converted fields from paddy these years. 'Seedling inset method' that is a new simple method for seedling test to evaluate the race specific resistance to Phytophthora stem rot was created in this research. When soybean seedlings were cut out their roots and their hypocotyls were attached to a corn meal agar plate that was covered with the mycelium of P. sojae, the evaluating the race specific resistance was correct and easier than the usual toothpick method. It was estimated that the resistance to race J in 'Hayagin 1' is controlled by major single-gene, in this method.
