Productivity and growth potential of pure Norway spruce (Picea Abies (L.) 英语. The presented PhD thesis was developed in the time period from 2005 to 2008. In the thesis the productivity and growth potential of the third most widespread tree species in Latvia - Norway spruce - was studied on fertile sites. The growth of young stands on drained soils, the growth potential of 30-50 years old stands, and the productivity of 60-100 years old pre-mature and mature stands was investigated separately. The data from permanent, regularly re-measured sample plots, the data from temporary sample plots, as well as the data acquired from Latvian Forest resource monitoring was used for the analysis. It was found out that the most intense volume accumulation takes time when the mean height of the stand is between 12 and 17 m. In comparatively sparse 17 m high stands the number of trees is close to 1 500 per ha, irrespectively of the management regime; this density is most likely the limit of self-thinning in spruce stands up to the mean height of 20 m. In the stands that have been thinned to 2 000 trees ha-1 before their mean height exceeded 5 m the growth of all stand parameters was more rapid compared to the stands that were 10 m high at the moment of thinning. Thus the results repeatedly confirm the significance of early thinning. In the initially over-stocked stands where the standing volume has reached 250-300 m3 ha-1 a reduction of the volume accumulation rate and decline of the growth potential was often observed. The results of the growth potential analysis indicate that the decline of the growth potential in pure spruce stands, which most likely have originated from over-stocked cultures, is the adaptation of these stands to the existing conditions: an attempt to form a complex, uneven-aged stand. It is the natural form of spruce forest in Latvian conditions. The lowest growth potential is characteristically to the spruce stands on drained peat soils, the highest - to the spruce stands on drained mineral soils. The growth potential decreases with the stand age. The majority of the analyzed 60-100 years old spruce stands has formed naturally, it can be explained with the historical situation in the management of spruce forests. It was discovered that pre-mature and mature spruce stands still retain high productivity, besides pure stands have higher current volume increment values compared to the mixed stands. The results of the thesis demonstrate that spruce stands in Latvia differ rather much by origin and management regime. It is suggested more to take into account the ecological demands of the tree species when managing spruce stands and in the future to give up the stand age and target diameter as the only criteria for the final felling in the economically available forests. The PhD thesis contains 93 pages; information is summarized in 17 tables and 37 figures; 196 sources of literature are referred to. 6 conclusions and 3 proposals are given at the end.

拉脱维亚语. Promocijas darbs izstrādāts laikā no 2005. gada līdz 2008. gadam. Tajā pētīta Latvijas trešās izplatītākās koku sugas egles tīraudžu ražība un augšanas potenciāls auglīgajos meža tipos: damaksnī, vērī, gāršā, šaurlapju un platlapju ārenī un kūdrenī. Atsevišķi analizēta egļu jaunaudžu augšanas gaita nosusinātajos mežos, 30-50 gadus vecu egļu jaunaudžu un vidēja vecuma audžu augšanas potenciāls atbilstoši īpaši izstrādātai metodikai, kā arī 60-100 gadus vecu egļu tīraudžu ražība un produktivitāte. Kā pētījuma objekti izmantoti gan regulāri pārmērītu pastāvīgo parauglaukumu dati, gan visā Latvijas teritorijā izvietotu īslaicīgo parauglaukumu dati, gan arī informācija no Meža resursu monitoringa pirmo četru gadu uzmērījumu datu bāzēm. Darba gaitā noskaidrots, ka visstraujākā krājas uzkrāšanās notiek 12 līdz 17 m augstās egļu jaunaudzēs. Samērā retās ap 17 m augstās jaunaudzēs neatkarīgi neapsaimniekošanas režīma koku skaits ir tuvs 1 500 gab. ha-1, kas visticamāk ir egļu jaunaudžu pašizretināšanās robeža līdz 20 m augstumam. Audzēs, kas līdz 2 000 gab. ha-1 izkoptas, pirms to vidējais augstums pārsniedzis 5 m, visi taksācijas rādītāji pieaug daudz straujāk nekā audzēs, kas kopšanas brīdī biju.as 10 m augstas. Tādējādi rezultāti atkārtoti apliecina agrīno kopšanas ciržu nozīmi. Novērots, ka sākotnēji pārbiezinātās egļu audzēs, kurās krāja sasniegusi 250-300 m3 ha-1, bieži strauji samazinās krājas uzkrāšanās temps un pasliktinās augšanas potenciāls. Augšanas potenciāla analīzes rezultāti liecina, ka augšanas potenciāla pasliktināšanās egļu tīraudzēs, kas visticamāk cēlušās no pārbiezinātām un laikus neizkoptām egļu kultūrām, ir pielāgošanās esošajiem apstākļiem, cenšoties izveidot saliktu dažādvecuma audzi, kas ir egļu meža dabiskākā forma Latvijas apstākļos. Zemākais augšanas potenciāls konstatēts egļu tīraudzēs kūdreņos, augstākais – egļu tīraudzēs āreņos. Konstatēts, ka, palielinoties audzes vecumam, augšanas potenciāls samazinās. Lielākā daļa no analizētajām 60-100 gadus vecajām egļu tīraudzēm veidojušās dabiski. Tas skaidrojams ar vēsturisko situāciju egļu mežu apsaimniekošanā. Konstatēts, ka egļu briestaudzes un pieaugu.as audzes saglabā augstu ražību, turklāt egļu tīraudzēs saglabājas augstāks krājas tekošais pieaugums, salīdzinot ar mistraudzēm. Promocijas darbā iegūtie rezultāti pierāda, ka Latvijā ir sastopamas pēc izcelšanās un apsaimniekošanas režīma visai atšķirīgas egļu audzes. Tiek ieteikts egļu mežu apsaimniekošanā vairāk ņemt vērā sugas ekoloģiskās īpatnības un nākotnē saimnieciskajos me.os atsacīties no audzes vecuma un mērķa caurmēra kā vienīgajiem galvenās izmantošanas laiku reglamentējošajiem rādītājiem. Promocijas darba apjoms ir 93 lappuses; informācija apkopota 17 tabulās un 37 attēlos, izmantoti 196 literatūras avoti. Darba noslēgumā formulēti 6 secinājumi un 3 priekšlikumi.
