[Peculiarities of interaction between tomato plants and Fusarium oxysporum var. Orthoceras under different temperature conditions]

Abiotic factors and especially the temperature play a significant role in controlling plant-pathogen equilibrium. In relation to this the aim of the present study was to elucidate the specificity of the interaction between various tomato genotypes and Fusarium oxysporum under optimal and stress temperature conditions in the initial stage of plant ontogenesis. Seeds of two varieties and three lines L120, L121, L122 - genotypes with pronounced resistance to lower temperature and with high yielding ability were used. To appreciate the resistance/sensitivity to seed and radicle rot, tomato seeds were treated for 18 hours with culture filtrates of 6 strains of Fusarium oxysporum var. orthoceras. Parameters studied: seed germination and radicle growth. The obtained results showed that the interactions between tomatoes and F. oxysporum var. orthoceras are specific in seedling stage in relation to the evaluated parameter and temperature conditions. This fact should be taken into account when developing methodologies for testing the resistance to Fusarium root rot. The germinating process of seeds is controlled in a great measure by the pathogen: 55,12 and 52,98 percent, although the genotypic factor is not to be neglected: 33,04 and 26,15 percent respectively for optimal and stress temperature conditions. The formation and growth of the radicle is controlled especially by the genotype: 67,03 (under optimal temperature) and 78,48 percent (under stress temperature).
