Expression of photorespiration under optimal and stress conditions

The aim of the present study has been to elucidate the level of photorespiration in various genotypes of soybean (Glycine max) and kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) plants differing in their resistance to soil drought. The influence of this abiotic factor and the bioactive substance ;Ecostim; on the photorespiration was also studied. It was found that there is certain relation between photorespiration and plant resistance to abiotic factors. Higher level of photorespiration corresponded to more resistant genotypes. Soil drought caused a sudden decrease of biomass accumulation process and photorespiration level at nonresistant plants. The treatment of seeds of nonresistant genotypes with the bioactive substance of steroid nature ;Ecostim; induced processes that led to the change of drought consecuences: soil drought less influenced on biomass accumulation process, but reduced in a greater measure the level of photorespiration.
