A number of pre and post-mortem defects (during life and after slaughter) are visible on hides and skins. These defects particularly on grain side reduce the value of leather. Aniline leather can not be produced from such raw stock. Article discusses the sources of damage of hides and skins and their remedies. Defects in leather and suggestions for improvements are also included.
