At the Centro Experimental Regional Leales of the Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria (INTA), county of Tucumán (Argentina), located at 27º 12' S and 65º 18' W, 336 m.a.s.l. and 880 mm of rainfall, the effect of interplanting sowing of legumes (Stylosanthes scabra cv. Seca; Desmanthus virgatus cv. Jaribu; Chamaecrista rotundifolia (Wynn Cassia) and Macroptilium atropurpureum cv Siratro in the rehabilitation of degraded pastures of Chloris gayana Kunth cv. Pioneer) was evaluated. Systems of soil stripping removal were used with and without glifosate application for the control of weeds in a 4 x 2 x 2 factorial (four legumes, with and without herbicide, and two cutting seasons -70 and 140 days after planting). The first results showed that the interplanting sowing of legumes favored the increase of DM yield of degraded pastures of C. gayana; the application of the herbicide glifosate in the furrows of the legume favored a higher production of DM of the association, also a higher leave:stem ratio and a bigger PC content of the grass. The order of DM production was: M. atropurpureum cv. Siratro > Ch. rotundifolia > D. virgatus > S. scabra.
