The potato biomass gain dynamic was studied in the conditions of Volgo-Vyatka area (North-Eastern Russia). The groups of different maturing were tested to determine the main tendencies for yield. The predominant influence of moistening on tuber mass gain is showed (r=0.923-0.913), even the growth completely stops in unfavorable years. Temperature effect is lightly exposed because high day temperatures (up to 32 deg C), at which physiological processes interrupt, are compensated of lowered night ones when the main nutrient outflow into tubers occurs. No close relationship between early maturing and phenological stages has been found, may be because of strong affect of bare patch on seedlings. The firstly strong correlation (on tuber setting stage) between potato yield and total tuber number weakens but in the same time the relation with marketable tuber number gets stronger. Early maturing potato varieties are characterized by synchronous tuber setting, though late maturing ones have tuber number gain during the whole vegetation period. Therefore it is necessary to pay attention on large-sized tubers at the early stages of hybrid selection. The criteria for seedling selection by early maturing can be even a little number of large-sized and levelled tubers in a locus
