[Influenece of relief and fertilizers on chernozem fertility and barley productivity]

The field experiments were done in 2000-2002 in the Rostov Region. Barley plantations were located at north (NS) and south (SS) slopes at their top, medium and basal parts. The barley plants were top-dressed by N, P and K fertilizers at the stage of 2-3 leaves. Water reserves in common chernozem soil of the NS was a little higher during the whole vegetation period of barley, but the differences smoothed off up to the end of the period. The highest water reserves were characterized for the basal part of the NS. Their variability between different parts of a slope was more expressed at the NS than at the SS. Soil humidity varied from 2.5 to 32.0% depending on a year, barley development stage, relief and microlandscape. The content of exchangeable element forms changed a little with top-dressing by P and K fertilizers. The content of nitrate nitrogen increased by 13-15 kg/ha at N fertilizer applying regardless to relief features. Relief effect on barley performance was leveled under raised fertilizer doses. Top-dressing by N fertilizers at a dose of more than 67 kg/ha was not effective at the medium and basal parts of slopes. Barley performance did not change authentically under P and K fertilizers. A differentiated system of barley fertilizing has been developed. The system includes top-dressing by N fertilizers at a dose of 25 reactant kg/ha at medium and basal parts of NS and at a dose of 50 reactant kg/ha at other relief elements at the plant development stage of 2-3 leaves. This fertilizer applying increases culture profitability by 2.6-7.5% in compare with applying of a unified dose of N fertilizers for all landscape elements
