[Methods of producing Stavropolskij and Selinskij carp breeds and improving the rearing technology]

A long-term breeding program of rearing high productive carp breeds adapted to natural and climatic conditions of the South of the Russian Federation has been completed. By adaptation and economically useful traits of 3 foreign carps and native outbreed carps there were selected the most promising starting forms. One of them was obtained by crossing native scaled female carps and Tatai scaled male carps, another – native scattered female carps and German scattered male carps. The resulting offspring were inter se reared throughout several generations. The selection was conducted to increase the growth rate and viability in carps, to improve its food qualities. The Stavropolsky scaled carp (genotypes SSnn and Ssnn) is ecologically adaptive, resistant to the commercial breeding method and intensive rearing methods. When observing the conventional technology, the commercial yield is 2.1-2.3 t per 1 ha of water area, the carcass yield reaching 58-62%, the protein content being 16-17%, fat being 3-4%. The Selinsky scattered carp (genotypes ssnn) is more exacting to keeping conditions but is characterized by high growth rate and good food qualities. The new breeds have improved reproductive qualities. Females positively response to hypophysial injection and give spawn. The Stavropolsky carp is characterized in high allelic frequency of transferrin Tf-a gene and predominated allele My-a in the myogen locus. The Selinsky carp is characterized in high allelic frequency of transferrin Tf-b gene and predominated rapid allele of locus Est-1 gene of serous esterases. The new breeds are listed in the State Registers of Breeding Advancements allowed to use and recommended for breeding in pond and industrial fishing farms in the Krasnodar and Stavrolpol krais, Rostov, Archangel and Volgograd Regions
