Project Breeding and agronomical researches for legume crops improvement proponent's Legume Research and Development Center of Vietnam Agricultural Science Institute donated by Ministry Agricultural Rural Development, has started from January, 2001 to December, 2005 with twelve partner organizations. The project's goal is to develop new peanut, soybean and mungbean varieties with high yield, good quality, high /moderate resistance to main pest, diseases and environment stress; develop the guide to production for new legume cultivars, so contribute increasing productivity, production, quality, expanding area. It helps to increase peanut exporting, and it also reduces soybean importing. Therefore, It will be rapid increasing farmer's income. The highlights of project was as following: Introduced and collected 1072 accessions of peanuts, soybeans, mungbeans; 802 promising lines of peanut, soybean and mungbean derived from crosses and mutations have been selected out. Seven peanut varieties named L05, MD7, L14, L12, 8, VD2 and MD9; ten soybean varieties (AK06, DT12, DT90, D96 02, HL92, DT2000, 09804, DT96, DVN 5 and DT22); 02 mungbean varieties (KP11 and VN99-3) have been registered as national varieties. Other hand, three peanut varieties L18, VD6, VD7 and two mungbean varieties as: KPS1, TNB01 have been recognized as national promising varieties. It has developed 25 production guidelines for new national varieties. In which, new peanut sowing season (autumn winter season) is registered as a national technology. 26 articles of project achievement has been published in both national and international publishers; Project also contributed to educate for 25 BSc, 10 MSc and 6 PhD; Results of project has been widely adopted by Vietnamese farmers. These results have contributed sustainable income for farmers and legume production in Vietnam. NGOs, national and international projects has recognized and picked up some of the project's highlights in to their developing programs.
