A study has been carried out on the newly developed Bulgarian pasture ryegrass variety Strandza. It has been found that this variety is characterized with high productivity, its green mass yield varying between 18 440 kg/ha and 45 350 kg/ha and its yield of absolute dry matter - between 6400 and 10 640 kg/ha. The new variety has been tested in different regions of country without irrigation. Depending on the soil and climatic conditions its content of crude protein in the absolute dry matter is between 13.46 and 16.42% on the average. Strandza variety develops well on low-productive soils and in region with long periods of drought. It can by grown in low-acid soils but shows a very good response to irrigation and nitrogenous fertilization.
