Relationship between litter size in multiplication and breeding herds

The aim of our study was to find the impact of the hyperprolific line selection on litter size in a multiplication herd of pigs. Our study is based on the information about the ancestor of the sows studied. The ancestors came from either a hyperprolific line or a normal line. Mixed linear models in SAS for Windows 9.1.2. were used for statistical analysis. No differences between total number of piglets born, number of piglets born alive and number of piglets weaned were found on the 1st as well as on the 1st-5th litters.
