The aim of the present work was to evaluate the effect of dietary Essenpro.a supplementation (a product based on a blend of essential oils with > 5% of Syzigium aromathicum extract) on growth performance, intestinal microbiology and intestinal morphology. Five experimental treatments consisting of increasing levels of Essenpro.a inclusion: 0 (control T-1), 100 (T-2), 200 (T-3), 1000 (T-4) y 2500 (T-5) mg/kg were randomly distributed amongst 40 replicates of 20 broilers. A reduction in the feed gain ratio was observed by the effect of Essenpro.a at the inclusion level of 100 mg/kg during the whole productive cycle (1.92 control vs. 1.82 100 mg/kg) and at 200 mg/kg from 0 to 35 days (1.76 control vs 1.63 200 mg/kg). The Enterobacteriaceae counts at caecal level were not affected by Essenpro.a supplementation in 21 d-old animals, nevertheless the number of Lactobacili (9,62 vs 9,18; P<0.05) was highly increased respect to the control diet. Moreover, Essenpro.a inclusion at 100 mg/kg was able to modulate intestinal immune response.
