A note on zinc deficiency in cacao ( Theobroma cacao L.)

A zinc deficiency problem of field cacao at Tafo, Ghana, is reported. The malady is comparatively more common with the Amazon varieties than with the Amelonado. A dose equivalent to 4·4 Ibjacre zinc sulphate applied either to the soil or as a foliar spray corrected the deficiency in 2!-year-old potted Amazon cacao seedlings. Factors believed to affect zinc availability in the soils are mentioned.
