Electrophoretic separation of tropical mealybugs

Coker , W.Z., Department of Zoology, University of Ghana, Legon
A study by disc gel electrophoresis of the esterases in four mealy-bug species on cocoa has revealed patterns and types that are useful for separating the species. The two fastest esterase bands in Planococcoides njalensis are very active cholinesterase sites as determined by intensity of staining. In Planococcus citri the two fastest bands are weak cholinesterase sites. P.ciltis has the slowest and fastest bands as cholinesterase sites, while Ferrisiana virgata has all three bands being cholinesterase.
