A tuberculine testing trial in cattle was carried out of find out the sensitivity and spedficity of bovine purified protein derivate (PP D) tuberculine and Human PPD (both produced in Razi institute). The tests were done on 1826 cattle in four Regions of Tehran province (Karaj, shahriar, is la m shahr. shahr Ray). The standard intradermal comparative tuberculine test. using avian and human tuberculines (PP DJ were carried out on one side of the neck and bovine PPD (1.0 mg per ml) was injected on the opposite side in the usual mammalian site the rules of inter pretation developed by lesslieand Hebert (1975) for a comparative fuberculine test using avian and bovine PPD and standard interpretation for a comparative tuberculine test using avian and Human PPD were applied. The results of this Trial showed that the sensitivity and specificity of Human and bovine tuberculins were 87.5, 62.5 and 75, 75 per cent respectivitly the maching of these two tuberculins for Potency showed that the bovine PPD tuberculin (1.0 mg per ml) was 87 per cent of that of Human PPD (2mg per ml) in tuberculous cattle while in non- tuberculous animals it was only 35 per cent. non- specific reactions were less to bovine PPD than to the human PPD, showing that in the enviroment of this trial the bovine PPD was more specific than Human PPD and had advautoges of reducing the problem of No-visible - lesion (NVL). Concentertion of 1.0 mg per ml of bovine PPD and 0.5 mg per ml of avian PPD are recommended for using comparative tubercalin test.
