Radical-Scavenging Activities of Four Quinochalcones of Safflower

Four C-glucosylquinochalcones (safflomin C, isosafflomin C, methylsafflomin C, and methylisosafflomin C) were isolated from the BuOH-soluble fraction of safflower using reversed phase HPLC. These four isolated quinochalcones exhibited EC∧50 values similar with those of caffeic acid and ascorbic acid, with Trolox Equivalent Antioxidant Capacity value of 1.34 as determined by ABAP/ABTS assay [Floris et al., 2000], and showed strong antioxidant activities against the ABTS radical system.
