Applying the 'three-by-five process method' in international cooperation projects: As a monitoring tool in the implementation stages of participatory rural development

Japan's livelihood improvement program is known as 'Japanese participatory development'. It includes many suggestions for participatory rural development projects in international cooperation, especially extension techniques. This thesis focuses on a facilitation technique called the 'three-by-five process method'. This method helps rural people to simplify their complicated problems, making them aware of the problems' causes and solutions. Extension workers are also assisted in recognizing more about the conditions of the people and themselves. Firstly, this thesis confirms the character of the participatory project additionally which monitoring tools could be necessary for participatory rural development in international cooperation. The 'three-by-five process method' was used to provide analysis of the implementation stage for international cooperation, and to apply and analyze projects in Kenya in the implementation stage. Finally, monitoring tools for facilitators are considered, and it is suggested there is a need for the experience of the Japanese facilitation techniques for participatory tools, in international cooperation.
