To show ability of anaerobically digested slurry from bio-gas plant as manure on the rice cultivation, the nutritive effects on the growth and yield of rice plants were investigated. On paddy field experiments, treatment of the slurry as top-dressing was increased panicle weight, grain weight, panicle length and grain number per head of rice plants, which was also increased grain yield. Grain yield of rice plants after treating the slurry as basal-dressing became lower by decreasing of panicle number and grain number per head in pot experiment. On both pot and paddy field experiments, there were no significant difference of plant height, tiller number and SPAD value of rice plants between top-dressing treatment and untreated control. Similarly, panicle number and 1000-grain weight were also the same. Grain number per head in top-dressing treatment increased significantly compared with that in untreated control, therefore, grain yield in top-dressing treatment became higher. From the results of these experiments, it was demonstrated that anaerobically digested slurry was effective to the growth and yield of rice plants by using as a top-dressing treatment. Furthermore, it was suggested that the slurry had high nutritive effects as a substitute for chemical fertilizer.
