In order to breed a new tomato variety that has favorable characteristics for slicing, we investigated growth, yield and fruit character of Dutch varieties and selected the breeding materials. The correlation with fruit characteristics and an efficient method to select the favorable characteristics for slicing was cleared. The yield of these Dutch varieties was higher than 'Momotaro York'. The average weight of a fruit was heavier than 'Momotaro York'. The number of locules was fewer than 'Momotaro York'. The thickness of mesocarp was thicker than 'Momotaro York'. The dripping ratio of sliced tomato after 24 hours was lower than 'Momotaro York'. The yield of high-quality fruits of 'Grace' was the highest of these Dutch varieties. The percentage of pericarp has positive correlation with the number of locules and the thickness of mesocarp. The fruit firmness has positive correlation with the average weight of a fruit and the number of locules. The dripping ratio of sliced tomato after 24 hours has negative correlation with the thickness of mesocarp. For breeding of tomato cultivar for favorable slicing, 'Grace' was considered the most promising breeding source. It is possible to use the average weight of a fruit, the number of locules and the thickness of mesocarp as the selection characteristics related to favorable characteristics for slicing.
