Carotenoides are important biological compounds that are present in all green tissues of higher plants. Carotenoides have many functions such as antioxidation, immunity regulation and inhibiting proliferation of tumor cells. The investigation was carried out in 2009 with the aim to determine content of carotenoides in melons (Cucumis melo L.). Two line of Latgale's ('8' - orange fleshed and '14' - pale gree fleshed) and two melon cultivars ('Honey Dew' and 'Piel De Sapo', both white fleshed) were investigated. The most amount of carotenoides was observed in melon line '8'. The lowest carotenoide amount was observed in melon sort 'Honey Dew'.
