Flax takes an important position in agriculture of Latvia due to dual-purpose production (flax fibre and linseed) since ancient times. The aim of the study was to evaluate 40 Latvian flax cultivars and 10 hybrids repatriated from different gene banks. Field trial was established in Agricultural Science Centre in Latgale in 2008. Lithuanian cultivar 'Vega 2' was used as a standard, and the trial was organized into three replications. Repatriated Latvian flax cultivars produced significantly higher seed yield (25 samples) and also flax straw yield if compared with standard 'Vega 2'. The technical length of the straw of the best Latvian repatriated cultivars and hybrids exceeded standard 'Vega 2' by 16 – 51. Phloem content in the Latvian repatriated flax was 26.1 to 34.1, and for 20 samples it was higher than that of the standard. Oil content in linseed of Latvian origin samples was stated 40.0 – 44.0. Three cultivars ('N 115', 'Ošupes 30', 'Rigar B') and two hybrids ('L19–6/5' and 'T 11 – 13/3–1') were pointed out as the best ones evaluating them according to seven main quality parameters.
