Production analysis of Latvian bred sheep crossbred lambs

The study was conducted in Jelgava district farm Mežkalēji, in which during long period of time, in collaboration with LUA researchers, carried out studies on the uses of European sheep breeds to raise productivity traits of Latvian Darkheaded (hereafter LT) sheep meat. As the study material were used LT breed ewes and LT-German Merino local breed (hereinafter VMV) breeding ram. Fertility of ewes before the start of the study was similar, averaging 150 and 159%. During the study, the mean number of lambs born from ewe was not significantly different - 1.7, but in the study group lambs were born in the triplets, as result mean live weight of lambs at birth was significantly lower (-0.07, p is less than 0.05). The mean absolute weight gain per day in the study group was 30 g higher (p is less than 0.05), resulting in lamb live weight at the age of 100 days was 24 kg (p is less than 0.05). From meat sales of one of the study group lamb at the age of 100 days could get 28.80 LVL, whether for 3.60 LVL more, as in the control group. Potential revenue per one ewe from the study group is 48.96 LVL, whether for 6.12 LVL larger, as in control group.
