Ecological management of peanut strawrot caused by Sclerotium rolfsii

The study was conducted to determine the effectivity of some ecological approaches in managing stem rot diseases in peanut caused by Sclerotium rolfsii. Results of the pot experiment showed that Trichoderma harzianum, Bacillus subtilis and Mycovam treatments significantly reduced the incidence of pre and post emergence rotting of peanuts. The reduction of incidence by these treatments were highly comparable with the application of fungicide to stem rot disease in peanut. Results of seed treatment study using different botanical extracts of Azadirachta indica L., Allium sativum and Ageratum conyzoides significantly inhibited the attack of Sclerotium rolfsii on peanut seeds both on pre and post emergence rotting. The efficacy of these botanical extracts were highly comparable to the application of fungicide as seed treatment.
