Response of sunflower varieties to various sowing methods
2008
Hingoro, M.I.
Homogeneous seeds of three sunflower varieties namely All-star, Hysun-33 and HO-1 were sown in three different methods i.e. drilling, ridges and broadcast respectively using a four replicate Randomized complete block design. All recommended cultured practice was followed throughout the growing period. The data thus collected were subjected to analysis of variances, while treatment mean was compared through LSD test. It was found that, days to maturity, plant height, head diameter, 1000 seed weight (g) and seed yield per ha, and oil content affected significantly by the sowing methods. Seed drilling showed maximum germination (89.33%), while a maturity day was more increase of seed broadcast (97.75) and plant height (162.44 inforant). Whereas, greater head diameter was recorded (18.55 cm) increase of seed drilling. Sunflower sown on ridges resulted in greater seed under value (15.50, g), seed yield (2311.26 kg per ha) and oil content (40.01%).
