Studies of efficacy of organic amendments on plant parasitic nematodes associated with onion (Allium cepa L.) soil
2008
Maitlo, A.R.
Composite samples of onion soil were collected from Tandojam, Khaisano Mori and Tando Allahyar farm plant parasitic nematodes were isolated from the soil roots by Bermann funnel method. Identification of nematodes was done on their taxonomic characteristic. Nematodes identified from onion and soil were Ditylenchus dipsaci sp., Tylenchorhynchus sp., Hoplolaimus sp., Aphelenchus sp., Lingidorus sp., Helicotylenchus sp. and Xiphinema sp. was isolated predominantly from three fields according to their highest prominent value (Pv). Pathogenicity test was carried in soil artificially infested with 100, 150 and 200 Ditylenchus dipsaci sp. adults. The roots of infected onion seedling were significantly reduced in their length and bulb weight then un-inoculated. The final population (Pf) of nematodes was 577 from the initial population (Pi) of 200 nematodes.
