The influence of fertilization with catch crop and straw of spring barley on the yielding and profitability of table potato cultivation

In this work the results of investigations for 1999-2002 have been stated. The aim was to compare yielding and profitability of cultivation of table potato fertilized with catch crop and spring barley straw. In this experiment there two factors were examined: organic fertilization (control, farmyard manure, white clover + Italian ryegrass, fodder radish, fodder radish - mulch), straw fertilization (without straw, with straw). In the first year after application of organic fertilization table potatoes were cultivated. During the harvest there were specified general and commercial yield of potato tubers. Also economic evaluation of potato cultivation in conditions of varied organic fertilization was done. The value of production, direct costs of production and direct surplus was calculated. General and commercial yield of potato tubers fertilized with mixture of white clover with Italian ryegrass and fodder radish were significantly higher or equal to obtained on farmyard manure. Direct costs of production of potato fertilized with catch crop and catch crop with straw were significantly lower then farmyard manure. The highest direct surplus, analogically as the highest yields of potato tubers, from combination fertilized with mixture of white clover with Italian ryegrass were noticed
