In the study of forest catena the following sequence of soils was found: podzolic soils in the upper part of the slope, gley-podzolic soils in the lower part of the slope and non-silted peat-muck soils in the depression. Organic matter content, total porosity and retention properties in the soils of the catena under study were found to increase with the decrease in altitude. The absence of silting of the peat-muck soils found in land hollows gives evidence that despite large land inclination, the forest in the catena significantly restricts erosion processes
