Twelve years after the adoption of the Spatial Plan of the Republic of Serbia, a group of experts who took part in the elaboration of the original document was called by the Ministry for Spacial and Regional Planning to critically analyse all parts of the plan in order to verify the strategy of the adopted development plans and to propose corrections of the strategy as appropriate. The paper describes the strategic directions of the spatial plan concerning the structural measures of water management and examines the correctness of these in the light of the past 12 years of experience (executed partly in very difficult circumstances of international blockade and economic crisis of the country). The general conclusion of the expert group was that while the strategy was well conceived in general lines, in ongoing and future planning some items need to be corrected.
