The effect of dietary factors on the efficiency of microbial protein synthesis in dairy cows based on renal and mammary allantoin excretion

Urinary and mammary excretion of allantoin was used to estimate the effects of feeding strategy and concentrate level in the ration on the efficiency of microbial N synthesis in dairy cows. Feeding system was proved to have no effect on microbial N synthesis. Similar OM digestibility and the balance of nutrients in the diets regardless of their composition and the mode they were offered to the animals might have leaded to the lack of influence of feeding system on the efficiency of microbial N synthesis. Increasing concentrate level with 21% of the ration DM did not seem to influence microbial proteolytic activity, as a result protein digestion and MN synthesis.
