Agriculture as branch of economy represent major factor of total economical development of Serbia and important segment of the economic structure. Small and medium enterprises which represent main source of employment and moving force of most developed world countries should also have the same importance and role in development of agriculture in Serbia. Economic development of Serbia must be based on affirmation of private ownership and market economy, and from the aspect of more favourable and more efficient environment for direct foreign investments and developed of SME in the field of agriculture. Stregthening of this sector is result of the improvement in general conditions of the economy and business and creation of more stimulating business environment. In the future period, the focus of support measures should be directed on increase of innovative spirit and competitiveness of SME sector as carrier of rapid economic development. However, numerous obstacles on the way towards the fast development of this sector have still not been removed. Therefore, initiated activities must be continued and intensified in accordance with economic reforms of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, as well as European Charter on Development of Small Enterprises.
